Thailand Transport Open Data Platform
An initiative to collect, standardize, and democratize transportation data across Thailand
Thailand Transport Open Data Platform
Project Overview
The Thailand Transport Open Data Platform is an initiative to create a comprehensive, accessible repository of transportation data across Thailand. This platform aims to democratize access to critical mobility information, enabling researchers, policymakers, and developers to create innovative solutions for Thailand’s transportation challenges.
Motivation
Despite significant investments in transportation infrastructure and services across Thailand, there remains a substantial gap in the availability and accessibility of comprehensive transportation data. Key challenges include:
- Data fragmentation across multiple government agencies
- Inconsistent data formats and standards
- Limited access to real-time transportation information
- Absence of a unified platform for transportation researchers and developers
This project addresses these challenges by creating an open, standardized platform that aggregates transportation data from diverse sources.
Platform Features

Current Features
- Data Collection Framework: Pull all sources which gathered data from various transportation agencies and sources
- Interactive Data Visualization: Web-based interface for exploring transportation data by agencies
Datasets Currently Available
The platform currently provides access to several key transportation datasets:
Dataset | Description | Update Frequency | Source |
---|---|---|---|
Bus Routes | Route networks for all public buses in major cities | Monthly | Multiple city transit authorities |
Traffic Volumes | Vehicle counts at major intersections | Daily | Department of Highways |
Rail Schedules | Timetables for all rail services | Weekly | State Railway of Thailand |
Road Incidents | Traffic accidents and road closures | Hourly | Highway Police |
Bike Sharing | Station locations and bike availability | Real-time | Multiple bike sharing operators |
This open data platform enables numerous applications and research opportunities:
- Urban Planning: Evidence-based planning for transportation infrastructure
- Research: Academic studies on mobility patterns and transportation efficiency
- App Development: Creation of multimodal journey planning applications
- Policy Analysis: Evaluation of transportation policies and interventions
- Public Transparency: Greater visibility into transportation investments and performance
- Emergency Response: Improved routing and planning for emergency vehicles
Future Development
The roadmap for future development includes:
- Real-time Data Integration: Expanding real-time data sources for more transportation modes
- Open Standards Development: Contributing to international transportation data standards
- Accessibility Features: Enhancing the platform for users with disabilities
Collaboration Opportunities
We actively seek partnerships with:
- Government transportation agencies
- University research programs
- Private transportation providers
- Civic technology organizations
- International development partners
